Football is the second most popular game in India. The game has enjoyed the most popularity in the regions like Goa, West Bengal, Orisha, Kerala and North Eastern India. Keeping this in mind the founders of ISL, Nita Ambani, introduced a fantastic league named ‘Indian Super League’ in year 2013. The ISL is a professional football league held in India since 2013. The league is considered as one of the top tier league in India and is an effort to make football a top sport in India and to make Indian football a major player worldwide.
The Indian Super League was launched on 21st October 2013 by IMG-Reliance, Star Sports and AIFF. The former Manchester United player and France international Louis Saha were announced the first marquee signing for the league.
The 2014 was the first season of Indian Super League and this inaugural season started on October 12, 2014 and finished on December 20, 2014. The season featured eight teams and each playing 14 matches during the regular season. The final match was played between Atletico de Kolkata and Kerala Blasters FC. Atletico de Kolkata became the champions by winning the inaugural season.
The 2015 Indian Super League is the second season of the league. For this season some rules have been changed. The league will run from October to December and every team will play fourteen matches against the other seven sides twice. One is at home and other away from home. Before the top 4 teams go into the finals, 56 matches will be played during the season. The finals will include a semi final round and the final.
If we talk about sponsors of Indian Super League, then I must say the league has received sponsorships from leading brands. On 30th September, 2014, it was announced that German Sports manufacture Puma SE would be the ball supplier of the Indian Super League. The company provides balls for matches and training. On 9 October, 2014 it was announced that the ISL organizers had signed sponsorship with Maruti Suzuki, Pepsico and Amul.
About the media partners, STAR Sports serve as the official broadcaster of the league in India and is one of the organizers of the ISL. Star Sports broadcasts the ISL through eight channels and five different languages, reaching 85% of the Indian Television audience. Not only in India, but in the United States and Australia the league was broadcasted by FOX Sports. In South East Asia and Europe, the league was shown by Eurosport and in Africa was shown by Super Sport.
The above details prove the craze of ISL and football in India. If you are going through streets and villages you can watch people playing football. You can even play fantasy football on Damroobox with the ISL match schedules and win cool prizes.
These days the people in villages have also become very tech-savy so they too are ready to buy sports equipment online. And this could only be made possible with the popularity of internet.
