Equipments
The two main equipments used in the game are rackets and balls. The components of a tennis racket include a handle which is known as the grip, this is connected to a neck which joins an elliptical frame that has a matrix of tightly pulled strings. Tennis balls were initially made of cloth strips stitched together with thread and then were stuffed with feathers. But nowadays tennis balls are made of hollow vulcanized rubber with a felt coating.
Tennis is played on a flat surface that is rectangular in shape. The tennis court must be 78 feet long and 27 feet wide for singles matches. A net is stretched across the full width of the court, dividing it into two equal ends. The net should be 3 feet 6 inches high at the posts and 3 feet high in the centre. Tennis can be played on a variety of surfaces like grass, clay and hard courts which are made of concrete or asphalt and are topped with acrylic. The carpet is rarely used for indoor play.
Talking about the clothing and apparel of the tennis players, then it has significantly changed over the past few years. The main concern for male players should be the t-shirts they wear while playing. The fabric of the apparels should not be 100% cotton as cotton retain sweat and stick to the body. Tennis players should use synthetic t-shirts as they offer comfort, enhance movement and have a lighter feel. The second and main concern is shorts. Shorts have a more sensible factor. Players should select shorts with pockets to them as the players can keep extra balls in the pocket when they serve and the fabric should be synthetic.
